TbilisiTbilisi, known in some languages until 1936 as Tiflis, is the capital and largest city of Georgia, situated on the banks of the Kura River. Tbilisi was founded in the 5th century AD by Vakhtang I of Iberia and has since served as the capital of various Georgian kingdoms and republics. The name Tbilisi (meaning "warm location") was given to the city due to the numerous sulfur hot springs in this area.
